IGNPC: Why the jump to two cities for the sequel? Not that we're complaining. The variety of the cities is incredible in this one. They're more dense, they're really incredible. IGNPC: Each city is larger than the original this time around, right? But the ones that are in the game, they've never come back and said 'wait, you're going to damage the car?' They're all fine with it. Microsoft gets all of the vehicle licenses, so maybe we just don't hear about the ones that don't want that to happen. JP: Licensers have been really good about it. IGNPC: Have you had any trouble getting the go-ahead from car companies to really wreck their cars in your game? I know that it's a sore topic with a lot of car manufacturers. JP: Woodchips, and leaves flying everywhere.

So basically we turn it into little bits and pieces. You take a tree, you lay it on the ground, and it just doesn't look right. We had to find out a way to get rid of them, because that was the problem with Midtown one - what to do with the tree after it fell. So you can break out the small trees now, and they basically explode. Little things like the trees - everything in Midtown you could smash through and break, and all of a sudden you'd hit a tree that looked like a sapling, and it would stop you dead in your tracks. A lot of the new cars have breakable parts, with mirrors that will fly off, and bumpers and things like that. JP: A lot of people wanted better damage on cars, so we've done that.

IGNPC: So what did the fans really want to see in the sequel? We knew what we wanted to do with our next city or cities in this case, and a lot of fansites gave us a lot of ideas. We knew the race types were fun, we knew what we could add to the cities from what we saw ourselves from Chicago. JP: The first one gave us a nice dynamic that we could work from. IGNPC: What have you learned so far, working on a sequel? I got to be totally involved with the project from day one, and every day, so it's nice. IGNPC: How has it been working through the entire project this time around?

We recently had a chance to ask him some finicky questions regarding the sequel to one of our favorite little PC racers of last year. This time around it's his baby, and he's making sure that sequel will deliver more (more than twice as much, if your counting) of what made MM1 so much fun. Jay Panek, the Producer of Midtown Madness 2, was involved with the original Midtown Madness, although not for the entire run.
